Codex of FaithsAn illustrated atlas of belief

Editorial policy

Neutral by design

We describe each tradition as its followers understand it, and say so: adherents believe that…. Where historians or scholars see things differently, we say that too, separately: historians think that…. We do not argue for or against any faith.

Sources

Every article lists its sources: primary texts, scholarly works and reference encyclopaedias. Claims that cannot be sourced are left out.

Mysteries, legends and the occult

Stories in the Mysteries chapter carry a label: documented history, tradition, legend or speculation, so readers always know how much is actually known.

Images

Illustrations are drawn for the Codex. We avoid depicting what a tradition asks not to be depicted, for example images of the Prophet Muhammad, and we never use sacred symbols as decoration or for jokes.
